Nothin’ on you, baybeeeeee
“Count On Me (Nothin’ On You) – Full Melody English Ver.”:
“믿어줄래 (Nothin’ On You) (Full Melody Korean Ver.)”
“믿어줄래 (Nothin’ On You) (ubman & KYU Remix)”:
I liked this enough…but I’m a sucker for any K-pop/American pop crossover collabs, covers, whatever. (I have the MP3 rip of SHINee performing “Just Dance” at KBS Gayo Daejun last year, if that’s any indication.) It’s nothing extraordinary, and the remix just sounds like an obnoxiously sped up version of the original, but it’s tolerable.
To be honest, there’s really not much one can say about a “single album” that consists of three versions of the same, covered song. I get the feeling that Sidus is trying to work Jay back into the public scene in whatever ways possible, but the efforts made so far are looking pretty cheap. This album is completely built off the hype from one crappy little Youtube video, and it shows. The fan hype built up by relatively obnoxious Jaywalkers really doesn’t help, either.
At the least, I wish they’d taken advantage of both his singing and rapping ability in this, especially if he plans on doing United States promotions. Apparently the idea of being able to sing and rap is a foreign concept around here.
Unfortunately, I don’t think he has the chops to make it solo in either Asia or America, and I get the feeling that he’d be much happier being a normal kid in Seattle. But when you’ve got major company after major company making love calls and trying to monopolize on your notoriety fame, I guess it’s hard to say no.
